Born in Los Angeles and raised in Paris, China is the daughter of interna3onally acclaimed musician Dee Dee Bridgewater and legendary ac3vist and director Gilbert Moses III. A self-dubbed high school dropout and lifelong ar3st, she understands the music and its surrounding culture from the inside out.
AFer releasing her first single “Time” at just 16, she recorded seven albums as a leader on major and independent labels including Virgin, EMI, Blue Note, Decca, and MPS Records. In 2008, she founded her produc3on company MadeInChina, now home to several acclaimed projects — This One’s for Dinah (2009), Crazy Blues (2012), and Nigh:ntales (2017). Crazy Blues was named by The Times UK as one of the Top 100 Albums of 2013.
China has performed worldwide on over 800 stages across six con3nents, including Ronnie Sco;’s, Jazz Café, Barbican Centre, Royal Albert Hall, Olympia, La Cigale, Elbphilharmonie, Birdland, and Nublu. For more than a decade, she has hosted and produced radio and television shows, including “Made in China” on TSF Jazz (France) and “Late Night with China Moses” on Jazz FM (UK), making her one of the few women of color to host mul3ple European radio programs.
China’s latest album It’s Complicated – released in October 2025 – features a cross-genre cadre of musicians as she reimagines the vocal archetype – stripping each song down to its emo3onal core and taking listeners beyond the known to a universe en3rely her own.
